MILWAUKEE, WI, May 20, 2022 – Serina Chavez was sworn in as the Social Development Commission (SDC)’s District 5 Commissioner by Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson on Tuesday, May 17th.

SDC District 5 residents voted to elect Serina Chavez as their newly elected commissioner during the April 19th District Elections. As SDC’s District 5 Commissioner, Serina Chavez represents the near southside of Milwaukee

“There’s a need for services in District 5 and I want our community to know what is available to them,” said Commissioner Chavez. “We have a large population of Latinx and Hmong residents so making sure that they have resources and information that they can understand is also very important.”

In addition to 12 appointed Commissioners, SDC has six elected commissioners who represent all of Milwaukee County and are elected by their constituents.

This is Serina Chavez’s first time serving on the SDC Board of Commissioners.

For more than 50 years, the Social Development Commission (SDC) has served as a planner, coordinator, and provider of human service programs for low-income individuals and families in Milwaukee County. The mission of the Social Development Commission is to empower Milwaukee County residents with the resources to move beyond poverty.
