Weatherization Enhancement Program

Energy Efficiency is Good for Everyone!

Practicing energy efficiency in your own homes is not just about saving costs and keeping a healthy family. It is also cutting down the pollutants that your home may be adding to the atmosphere.

Electrification Ready!

The first step is to upgrade your electric system so that when the time comes to purchase a new appliance, you are READY. You may be able to get your FREE electrification readiness through the Weatherization Enhancement Program (WEP) for Milwaukee Homes. Did you know? Children living in homes with gas appliances are much more likely to have asthma. This is because all combustion appliances result in some level of indoor air pollution. According to FEMA, the top three causes of fires in homes are cooking, heating equipment and electrical malfunction. Switching from gas or oil appliances to electric appliances will improve the air quality in your home and reduce your risks of a fire.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in the Weatherization Assistance Program.
  • Applicants must live in one of the designated zip codes in the City of Milwaukee.
  • Applicants must have household utility costs that exceed 8.6 % of the total household income.

What’s next? Once your home is electrification-ready and weatherized, you may be eligible for these additional services:

Solar Energy Systems Roof-mounted solar (PV) systems on qualified homes, to offset most of the household energy use.

Heat Pumps Heat pumps run on electricity instead of fossil fuels and are up to three times more efficient than gas furnaces for heating. They can also act as air conditioners when the weather is warm, serving as a double-duty appliance!
