Meet the Social Development Commission (SDC)’s Absolute Advantage Program Instructor & Coordinator Robert Nunn:
How long have you worked at SDC?
I’ve worked at SDC for one year.
What do you do at SDC?
I am currently instructing the Absolute Advantage program.
Tell us it helps in the war against poverty.
The instruction that I teach combats poverty because it give graduates a foundation to build on. It also provides them with the opportunity that they never thought was possible.
What motivates you? Why do you do this work?
The things that keep me motivated — providing an opportunity to people that I did not have. SDC has the resources that people need to get ahead and stay productive in a positive way. I do this work because I love to play a positive and integral role in people’s lives.
Describe a time when you felt like your work at SDC made a difference in someone’s life.
Last summer I had a Youth Builder that completed the Youth Build program. He was very excited to finish. Two weeks went by after he graduated the program. I received several calls from the former student expressing how much I changed his life.
The student stopped in to see me the next day after (5 phone calls). We were talking outside for 45 minutes. He could not stop thanking me. I kept trying to explain to him that he did the work and made sacrifice. He was placed in a pre-apprenticeship program, with awesome pay to follow. He could not believe how his life changed after completing the Youth Build program. He purchased a new car, was able to save money and much more.
Tell us something people don’t know about you.
I am a custom car lover. I love to critique vehicles in my own special way.
