Meet the Social Development Commission (SDC)’s Instructor Coordinator Ceara (CJ) Jackson:
How long have you worked at SDC?
I have worked at SDC for three months.
What do you do at SDC?
I am a West Allis Instructor Coordinator for SDC’s Career Services.
What motivates you? Why do you do this work?
I am motivated by having the opportunity to set others on a path forward in life.
Describe a time when you felt like your work at SDC made a difference in someone’s life:
I had a student whom was struggling with math, not because numbers were confusing, but because they were traumatized. The student grew up with a family member who became easily frustrated with them not understanding. The family member became violent, leaving my student with no desire to embrace math throughout life.
It wasn’t until coming to SDC’s Absolute Advantage class that this person saw hope in not only being able to do math, but enjoy it! We would spend as much one-on-one time as possible going over random equations and their solutions until he was comfortable with the material. I was told I made the ride “smooth” and “literally painless”, and that meant mounds to me.
Tell us something people don’t know about you:
Not many people in my adult life know that I obtained my private pilot’s license thought the FAA at the age of 15. Before I was certified to drive a car, I was certified to fly a single-engine plane. I went through about three years of extensive flight training. I was granted with the opportunity to fly local news anchor people, friends and family.
