The Social Development Commission (SDC) is seeking to expand learning, community engagement and self-advocacy by providing access to community action agencies, human service, government, and education professionals nationwide as we embolden and encourage our youth to live this year’s Youth Summit theme:
Standing on Business !
Milwaukee County youth continue to express the need to learn more about entrepreneurship and better living. We want to provide every resource available to help educate and expose them to their potential!
Preparations are well underway, and we need your help to make the 2024 Youth Summit a success.
We invite you to join us in this effort by submitting your workshop presentation on best practices and thought-provoking ideas that align with our conference theme. All workshops will be 90 minutes long and there will be two sessions during the event, which runs from 8:30am-2:00pm.
We encourage you to submit interactive presentations as most participants are in 8th-12th grade.
Suggested topics are any that significantly impact people who are in the lived experience of poverty and are not limited to issues related to learning and or prevention such as:
Teen Workshops – Grades 8-12
- College Goals – Choosing what works best for the individual
- Alternative Post High School Certificates
- Skilled Trade Opportunities, including Healthcare
- Understanding the FAFSA application process
- Scholarship Opportunities and Searching for them
- Barber Cosmetology
- Real Estate
- Spoken Word
- Content Creator & Social Media Influencer
Mental Health /Wellness
- Healing past grief /loss
- Healthy Foods & Meal Preparation
- Safe space discussion (gender specific)
- Healing Arts – Stress Relief
- Goal Setting
- AODA Issues
- Money Management for Youth
- Credit and why it’s important
Adult Workshops (parent, guardian, or student chaperone)
- FAFSA – Understanding and the Preparation Process
- Caring for the Caregiver
- Money Management
- Bridging the Gap – How to Relate to the Generation You are Serving
