It is an exciting time to work at SDC!

Work with the Social Development Commission (SDC) and make a difference in the community. As a community action agency, SDC is tasked with helping – even advocating for – Milwaukee County residents experiencing poverty. We are grateful to have this mission and a dedicated staff that is committed to making an impact in the lives of others. SDC employees are on the front lines, helping people in need everyday. The work being done at SDC is about more than just a paycheck. We show up everyday with the determination to make a difference for our neighbors and community.

Our Core Values

The Social Development Commission brings inclusion, respect, reliability, quality, and innovation to community action work and advocacy while helping people move beyond poverty.

Inclusion: SDC is a place where diverse people of all walks of life come together, work, and make an impact on poverty. We are intentional in fostering environments where people are included, welcomed, and accepted for being who they are.

Respect: We believe that every human being deserves respect, no matter what status or title. We meet people where they are with empathy, dignity, and respect.

Reliable: We believe being reliable is key in healthy working relationships. The work we do requires us to be dependable, doing what we say, and holding each other accountable.

Quality: We believe in providing quality service, and that requires quality people. We continually find ways to improve ourselves and the services we provide through an integrative approach.

Innovation: We believe innovation is essential in our work because poverty is complex. We are required to be bold, think outside of the box, and stay open to new ideas and new ways of doing things that reflect the needs of the community.
