Free Tax PreparationVITA-Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
VITA | Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
For 18 years, the Social Development Commission (SDC) has operated the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA has provided FREE tax preparation and filing to individuals and families of Milwaukee County. There’s no need to pay to get your taxes prepared when you can get them done for FREE if you make $58,000 or less. There are many predatory tax preparers out there that will take your refunds when you could be using that many to give yourself and your family a financial boost.
VITA is more than just FREE tax preparation. The program links interested clients to financial institutions at SDC “Super Site” locations. Banks provide information on the benefits of checking and savings accounts and open accounts on the spot. They also provide consultation on how to begin taking the steps to make that dream of homeownership, starting a business, or investing come true. In addition, clients have access to certified SDC staff that determine qualification for some public health benefits and offer assistance completing and processing applications.
