ProStart Culinary & Job Readiness Program
 

SDC and HeartLove Place are offering the ProStart Culinary Program initially offered exclusively through HeartLove Place. The program provides culinary training to prepare participants with the ability to obtain entry level careers in the food service and hospitality industry.

ProStart Culinary training is focused on adults that have had employment challenges, have been incarcerated, are impoverished or face other circumstances resulting in difficulty finding employment. Those wishing to participate must be age 18 and over.

In addition to learning basic food safety and culinary skills, students will engage in a job readiness curriculum as well covering topics such as resume writing, interviewing, dress, telephone etiquette, the do's and don'ts of social media, etc.

SDC will provide job readiness workshops, assist with job placement, and provide supportive services to students.

The program is 400 hours and includes:

14 weeks of ProStart training curriculum (approved by National Restaurant Association)

  • Job Readiness Curriculum (10 weeks)
  • Hands on culinary workshops
  • ProStart examination
  • ServSafe examination
  • Food Services Practicum
    • Food Safety procedures
    • Career exploration in Food Services
    • Guest Speakers
    • Proper Cutting techniques
