Stay tuned for announcements about the
2018 Summit on Poverty!
Thank you for joining us for the 2017 Summit on Poverty,
presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield,
in partnership with the Medical Society of Milwaukee County.
Your attendance shows your commitment to being
an ambassador on behalf of our fellow residents that reside
in poverty and joining the fight to address this crisis.
The Social Development Commission (SDC) expresses its sincere gratitude to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Medical Society of Milwaukee County, and our coalition of partner agencies for making the 2017 Summit on Poverty a resounding success. Without each of you, and all of our sponsors, we could not have provided education about a myriad of factors that perpetuate poverty. An event that provided the inspiration to reduce it.
Our outstanding presenters enlightened attendees about contributing external and internal factors that keep people in poverty. The sessions were powerful and educational.
The keynote speakers, Kathryn J. Edin and Kevin Powell, shared impactful data and stories, and pointed out the realities of poverty and what must change at every level of society. Some words were difficult to hear, but needed to be heard. Their words provided inspiration to work together to fight the crisis that is ever growing in Milwaukee County, ranking us in the top five for the nation's highest poverty levels.
Moving forward, we must continue Dismantling Systems of Poverty both individually and collaboratively. By working together we have the power to make a difference.
Again, we are grateful for your participation and for serving as ambassadors in the fight against poverty.
We look forward to seeing you at the 2018 Summit on Poverty!
Thank You for Your Partnership
SDC is grateful for its partnership with the Medical Society of Milwaukee County (MSMC) on the Summit on Poverty.
The individual objectives of SDC and MSMC have united us as partners to increase awareness of poverty,
the impact it has on good health, and the importance of finding ways to treat those living in abhorrent conditions.
