2016 Board Elections

If you are interested in becoming a candidate for one of the six elected seats for the SDC Board of Commissioners, please read information on deadlines for candidate packet pick-up, candidate requirements, signature submission, and all other pertinent information to have your name appear on the ballot. VITA Program Underway

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will provide free tax preparation and filing services began Tuesday, January 19. Two sites will operate Monday - Saturday and three sites will operate at different dates and times throughout the week. Low to middle income Milwaukee County residents with an annual household income of less than $56,000 annually may qualify. Sign Up for Making Milwaukee Work!

If you or someone you know is 18 - 24 and is currently, or has previously, been involved with the Juvenile Justice System, Making Milwaukee Work could be the perfect program! If you are working towards employment and have experienced barriers to employment, contact us by January 29 for more information.

2016 Daddy Daughter Dance

Dads, it's time to twirl your daughters on the dance floor! The Milwaukee Public Schools Recreation department will again partner with the Social Development Commission (SDC) and the Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative (MFI) to host the 13th Annual Daddy/Daughter Dance on Saturday, February 20 at the North Division - Milwaukee Recreation Community Center. Volunteer Opportunities for VITA!

(Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)

Become a volunteer for the Milwaukee Asset Building Coalition Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program for the coming tax year. You will help residents maximize their tax returns by avoiding refund anticipation loans. As a volunteer, you will: receive free training and accredidation; help people begin to build financial assets; and be part of a program that helps thousands of households every year.

Department of Neighborhood Servides Landlord Training Program

The City of Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services will hold its 2016 Landlord Training Program. The classes with feature a Special Guest Presenter. Please note that advance registration is required. To register, please call 414.286.2954 or email lltp@milwakee.gov and indicate the class date, your name, address, zip code and telephone number. Training will be held: January 13 and 23; February 17 and 20 (SPANISH ONLY); March 1, 2 and 16; and April 13 and 20. Please see attached PDF for details.
