Community Collaborations

The Social Development Commission is dedicated to the knowledge that poverty is a problem that no one agency, individual or governmental body can resolve.  SDC is determined to build partnerships at all levels in an effort to bring to the table the ideas, expertise and energy of many to support county residents who come to the agency for help.

SDC is constantly searching for ways to increase involvement with others both within and outside Milwaukee County so we may better serve individuals and families.  These partnerships can take on the form of ongoing programs or collaborations like the Milwaukee Asset Building Coalition and the Bridge of Hope or for individual projects and events like the Spring Community Resource Fair and the Community Baby Shower.

Milwaukee Asset Building Coalition (MABC)

The Milwaukee Asset Building Coalition (MABC) is a private/public partnership that through education, planning, and income, assists low-income Milwaukee County residents achieve financial independence.

The Social Development Commission (SDC) is the lead agency for the MABC.  The Coalition focuses on three facets:  education/awareness, free tax filing services, and asset development and outcome evaluation.  The free tax filing service promotes the earned income tax credit, child tax credits and other state and federal tax credits.  The asset development links individuals filing taxes to education about the banking system and the process of obtaining savings and checking accounts, financial literacy on individual money management and asset development programs surrounding asset accumulation and maintenance.

The MABC has the goal of increasing the use of free tax preparation sites, connecting individuals to the Earned Income Tax Credit and link tax filers to core social and financial services that promote sustainability and asset building.
