Welcome Center - Richards Street

SDC Welcome Center

Learn more about the
Welcome Center

The Social Development Commission's Welcome Center provides clients and visitors to our waiting area with unique and innovative ways to access information, become informed and add stability to their lives. The waiting area has been modernized, adding an array of resources, including information on all SDC programs and services. It also provides accessibility to public benefits via the internet through a partnership with Milwaukee County's Modernization Initiative. This effort consists of connecting clients to public benefits such as BadgerCare Plus health insurance and the Food Share program.

A resource room has been added that will connect clients to external community resources, including employment, banking, financial literacy, health issues and other topics that will strengthen families, promote self-sufficiency and improve clients' overall quality of life. The Welcome Center is conveniently situated in the waiting area of SDC's Richards Street site, which generates a very heavy flow of traffic of thousands of clients annually who come for Energy Assistance and free VITA tax preparation services. The Welcome Center offers an abundance of information and opportunities to our clients and the community.
