The Social Development Commission provides education and training in areas of GED/HSED preparation and testing, financial literacy education and offers financial assistance for training programs. All classes are taught by qualified teachers who will motivate students to learn, study, and advance themselves educationally, personally and professionally.

SDC Education and Training Calendar for January - June 2011
Basic Skills and Adult Basic Education: SDC offers a unique approach to adult education and provides a wide variety of teaching methods to attract all types of learners from those with a goal of securing a GED or HSED to those interested looking to brush up on existing skills. We provide computer-based, instructor-led, and student-driven instruction and activities as well as the most current teaching materials and textbooks. To match your personal schedule, we offer daytime, evening, and Saturday classes. Competency-Based Program: Upon receipt of a referral from a student’s current high school teacher, adults with special learning needs can register for the PI 5.09 program which provides an alternative method to earning a high school diploma. This intensive 16-week course allows a student to meet competencies by creating a portfolio that is also reviewed by a panel.
Career and Orientation 750: A four-hour session exploring one’s career path and goals, this course emphasizes on a series of discussions, activities, and both personal and professional assessments. Upon completion of this course, students will receive documentation necessary for GED/HSED testing. GED/HSED Testing: Sanctioned GED/HSED on-site testing is offered to assist individuals with advancing to improved employment opportunities or taking the next step to post-secondary education. Financial Literacy and Get Checking: Financial Literacy is part of other SDC programs, empowering individuals to take charge of their finances. For persons with a damaged credit history the Get Checking Program is offered regularly and provides opportunity to re-establish credit accounts and begin to repair credit.
BEST - Boosting Employability through Soft Skills Training: BEST improves your chances of landing and keeping the job you want through classroom and on-the-job applications of those skills considered most essential by employers.
The Success Through Rewarding Internships and Volunteer Experiences or STRIVE Milwaukee Program provides students with opportunities to make a great contribution to the community while earning Service Learning Hours and completing Internship requirements.
