Program Description

The program was created to provide benefits and services to assist low-income households who are at or below 150% of poverty, with the cost of energy. The Social Development Commission, as the sub-contractor of the Milwaukee County Department of Human Services, operates the program throughout Milwaukee County.  Milwaukee County is defined as follows:

River Hills, Brown Deer, Bayside, Fox Point, Glendale, Whitefish Bay, Shorewood, Wauwatosa, Milwaukee, West Milwaukee, West Allis, Greenfield, St. Francis, Cudahy, Greendale, Hales Corners, South Milwaukee, Franklin and Oak Creek

The objective of the program is to provide low-income households with bill payment assistance while ensuring the continuation of utility services. Services provided are as follows:

  1. Regular Energy Assistance
  2. Crisis Assistance
  3. Proactive/Case Management
  4. Energy Conservation Training
  5. Financial Literacy using FDIC's Money Smart Curriculum
  6. Community Outreach
  7. Emergency Furnace Repair and Replacement
  8. After Hours Crisis Service
  9. Positive Identification

Eligibility

Q. What do I need to bring with me?

Q. How much of the bill will your program pay?

A. Benefit determination is based the calculation of various information contained in the application.  Such as household size, type of housing unit, etc.

Q. How often can I apply?

A. Households may apply once per heating season. Ex: heating season runs from October 1st through May 15th, however crisis assistance is available providing funds are available. Proactive and Case Management services also available year round.

Q. How do I get weatherization?

A. By applying and qualifying for Energy Assistance, you are automatically registered for Weatherization.  To further identify the selection criteria, please click here.
