Last week CNN ran an informative and thought provoking segment on "America's New Poor". The piece discusses the growing need that has resulted form the economic downturn, how the resources of more families have been depleted, and the struggle to help everyone in need.
The narrative of the story focuses a great deal on formerly middle class families, which have slipped into poverty because of economic forces. Of course, the same phenomenon holds true for those families facing long-term, intergenerational poverty. Some acknowledgement of that point would have been nice...but on the whole it's worth watching and brings up some valuable points. Check it out:
