Intergovernmental Affairs & Research Division

In keeping with the intended vision of Community Action Programs across the country, the Intergovernmental Affairs & Research Division leads the SDC’s research and advocacy efforts in promoting policies and programming that benefit Milwaukee County’s low-income individuals and families.

To accomplish this, staff are engaged in the following types of activities:

  • Monitoring poverty research on a broad level as well as tracking poverty data in Milwaukee County.
  • Public policy analysis and monitoring of federal and state legislation, and of current community issues as they relate to SDC’s mission and programming.
  • Engaging the public and community groups by hosting public hearings or other community forums focused on pertinent poverty-related topics.
  • Craft written reports, white papers, and/or policy briefs resulting from research or public forums and disseminating the materials via the SDC website or other professional venues.
  • Use research and analysis to help guide the SDC’s strategic action/advocacy plans and priorities.
  • In conjunction with other SDC division staff, foster strong collaborative relationships with the public, other government entities, non-profit organizations, foundations, and corporations regarding public policy agendas and advocacy strategies.
  • Assist other SDC divisions in gathering information or conducting research to advance specific program objectives.
  • Maximize usage of SDC's client databases to measure individual, program, and community-wide indicators.
  • Analyze client data to increase the benefits of SDC programming, guide annual and long-term planning, and strengthen resource development strategies.
